Nottington University Research Mandate.

Filed under: Uncategorized — by nottingtonuniversity @ 12:10 am

Our policy on animal research is very clear and strictly enforced.
While NU does concede that animal testing has led to important
research, we don’t feel that such breakthroughs are to be accomplished
through the invasive, painful and unethical testing of animals. If
your research cannot be done through means such as simple blood work,
non-invasive procedures such as MRI’s or behavioral analysis, then it
will not be done at NU.
All animals are to be treated with dignity.
The animals are to be kept in habitats that are in keeping with their
natural environment.
NO cages.
NO sensory deprivation.
NO separation of mother and offspring.
NO repeated breeding ~ all breeding is to be done in sync with the
animals own estrus cycle.
NO quarantine unless the animal poses a threat to others in terms of
sickness or behavior. Even then the quarantine area is still to be
an  environment native to the species. Should the animal become ill
beyond treatment, the animal is to be euthanised with care, dignity,
respect and free of pain.
NO imported/smuggled/endangered species.
This protocol will be strictly followed by all researchers.
Failure to do so will result not only in loss of research space and
funding, but all ties with NU will be permanently severed. No
exceptions.
Should your research involve human subjects, the following rules
apply.
NO genetic testing. (for animals as well).
Consent is to be obtained only after full disclosure of the research
is made to the person.
Only legal adults may consent.
Minors may be used only in research that is done in a setting natural
to the child, such as developmental behavioral observation . Consent
is to be given only by the legal guardian and again only after full
disclosure of the research is made to the guardian.
Guardians are to be with the minor for all research sessions save
situations where it is necessary to observe the child without the
guardian. However, in these cases, the guardian is to be on hand to
watch and supervise the session. This can easily be done through one-
way mirrors.
NO invasive procedures save simple blood work.
Any lab, research area or researcher is subject to inspections,
explanations and audits and any time.
